New content for the popular sci-fi sim

The popular simulation game now has new content. RimWorld: Royalty is a new DLC for RimWorld that will add a new missions and new abilities to your well-loved characters. There will also be a new combat system added to this expansion. However, because the RimWorld is a game founded upon story-generation, every game will likely have different requirements for each player.

Sci-fi turned royal

RimWorld is a game released in 2018. It is a sci-fi colony game told by an AI storyteller. The game generates various stories by simulating psychology, gunplay, melee combat, climate biomes, interpersonal relationships art, and more. It is a perfect combination of strategy and RPG with a pace that matched every player.

The Royalty expansion gives new content to the game. Most notable is the inclusion of a global empire faction and imperial ranks. Your character can gain imperial favor, increasing your rank in the empire. Obtaining royal titles will give you access to an imperial psychic amplifier.

Imperial psychic amplifier or psionic abilities allows you to incapacitate your opponents using your mind. These abilities entail everything, from sheer mind control to inflicting blindness and buffing lies. You can even induce vomiting if you become an advanced psycaster. Of course, these psychic abilities can be obtained via shadier ways. Rebels have trickier ways of acquiring imperial amplifiers.

Gaining more rank will also earn privileges. For example, once promoted to esquire, your character can request a Trooper Squad. This squad consists mostly of modestly armed NPCs that will drop in to help you defend the area for a short time. Be careful in using these privileges as you can burn these favors when used all the time.

Furthermore, higher ranks are entitled to some advanced features. Esquire ranks and above will have a throne room and a personal room, both of increasing size. Royalties will also have clothing and dietary requirements. But, you can ignore these requirements if you don't mind the hit to happiness it causes.

Start quest to get ranks

In addition to royal ranks, quests are also a new type of event introduced to RimWorld in the new expansion. These quests will provide you new ways to get new colonists, resources, and additional imperial favor. Completing a quest will also help you gain a new rank.

One of the first quests you will get is about an imperial of some rank, who is fleeing from an aggressive animal. Allowing them to join your colony, and defeating the animal, can get your first rank. Other quests will flow over time, so you will have lots of opportunities to get rankings and build favors. Be warned, though. The quests are a little imbalanced. Some will be puny, while the others are four times harder.

The DLC also introduces players to the mech clusters, which are groups of mechanoid buildings. Mech clusters appear to be always in a dormant state. But, when working together, these mech clusters present a unique tactical challenge. However, since they create a defensive wall, it will require you to fight outside your kill box.

Other additions also include imperial technology, which mixes ancient weapons and ultra technology. Among the useful imperial techs are plasma swords, hyper sharp monoswords, and electrical zeushammers. Some of these weapons can speak to the wielder through a psychic link.

The Royalty expansion will also offer an album of new music by Allstar Lindsay, who composed the base game's soundtrack.

A great addition to the game

The combination of the rank and quest systems makes the Royalty a worthy expansion. Not only that, providing psychic abilities to the character early in the game make the game all the more exciting. Some parts need patching, but, all in all, it is a recommended addition to the already great base game.
